LOU REED

tributes by PSF Staff
(December 2013)

Big publications typically have obits ready to go and it showed with the usual carbon copy tributes of Reed. Only a few hours after the news about Reed started to spread on October 27th, PSF writer Alan Crandall offered to write a piece on him but insisted that it wouldn't be the usual 'he invented punk' garbage that you’d read otherwise. That's when we hatched the idea that Reed deserved several tributes and perspectives that would address him and his work from a more personal angle. Given Reed's distaste for many writers he'd probably scoff at such an idea or see the irony in it. Regardless, his work did move many music fans and he's entitled to nothing less.

And so we at PSF toast Reed thanks to the several writers assembled here to share their thoughts own about Reed and his work and how their lives connected and disconnected with it. Hopefully Reed might appreciate at least some of it as he now (to bite a bit from Crandall) has time to gossip with Andy Warhol, jam with Sterling Morrison, Don Cherry and Robert Quine, argue with Lester Bangs, hang out with Doc Pomus and listen to verse from Delmore Schwarz and Edgar Allen Poe.
